Abrasive belts, as a crucial component of coated abrasives, are widely used in the market. The process involves bonding abrasives to fabric or paper substrates, resulting in products that are safe, precise, and cost-effective for workpiece polishing. Full resin abrasive belts offer wear and heat resistance, primarily used for stainless steel polishing, sheet metal processing, goldsmithing, and other grinding and polishing applications.
Since 2016, with the continuous adjustment of the industrial structure, the output of abrasive belts in the coated abrasives industry has shown a trend of first rising and then falling. In 2017, the national output of abrasive belts reached 222.563 million square meters, the highest in recent years. Production then declined for the following two years. In 2019, the output of abrasive belts in China's coated abrasives industry was 184.858 million square meters, falling below 200 million square meters again.
In 2020, the downward trend in the output of abrasive belts in China's coated abrasives industry improved, with a total output of 197.863 million square meters, a year-on-year increase of 7.0%.
In terms of output structure, unlike abrasive sheets which are mainly paper-based, the main product type in China's coated abrasive belt market is currently fabric-based. According to statistics from the Coated Abrasives Branch of the China Machine Tool Industry Association, in 2020, the output of paper-based abrasive belts in China was 40.64 million square meters, accounting for 20.5% of the total output of coated abrasive belts; the output of fabric-based abrasive belts was 157 million square meters, accounting for 79.5% of the total output of coated abrasive belts.
Currently, there are more than 50 coated abrasive manufacturing enterprises and more than 400 product enterprises in China. The concentration of the coated abrasives industry has improved in recent years, with technologically and management-leading enterprises beginning to occupy a larger market share with their advantageous products. However, the situation of small, numerous, and scattered enterprises has not been effectively improved, causing many enterprises to still be plagued by homogenized competition.
According to statistics from the Coated Abrasives Branch of the China Machine Tool Industry Association, in 2019, the top three abrasive belt producers in China were Jiangsu Mitsubishi, Jiangsu Fengmang, and Changzhou Jinniu. Jiangsu Fengmang surpassed Changzhou Jinniu to become the second largest. Five companies exceeded 10 million square meters, with a combined output of 1.409 billion square meters, accounting for 71.21% of the total statistical output of abrasive belts.
